As a current Orange County NC Commissioner, Jamezetta Bedford has delivered her campaign goals with compassion, collaboration, knowledge of the issues and a deep understanding of Orange County’s fiscal realities. Jamezetta has proven compassionate leadership that delivers realistic solutions for the issues facing our community.
- Schools – Collaborated with Commissioners to secure $60 million additional funding for the deferred maintenance of schools resulting in the voters approving $300 million in school bonds. Jamezetta’s commitment to quality public schools for all of our students remains a high priority.
- The Environment – Initiated the petition to develop a Climate Action Plan that was adopted in 2023.
- Affordable Housing – Dedicated federal dollars to repair low-income residents’ homes. Allocated $15 million in the capital plan for affordable housing. $5 million spent and replenished.
- Equity & Social Safety Net – Formed task forces to review equity in tax valuation and expand broadband access. Provided additional funding and social work coordination following Tropical Storm Chantal and the delay in SNAP benefits.
- Leadership – Proven leadership in fiscal management and a continued focus on delivering practical solutions for all residents. Served as BOCC chair 3 years; vice chair 2 years.
Jamezetta will focus on continuing to prioritize our public schools, equity, and a strong social safety net. To address the mental health needs of our community, Jamezetta has a 3 year goal of completing a behavioral health diversion facility for those who are experiencing a mental health crisis, an alternative to jail and the emergency department. The facility will provide clinical services and connect them with follow-up treatment services and social services networking, with the goal of better outcomes. Additionally, community resource space and programming will welcome residents informally for peer support and information.
Jamezetta’s service on the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board of Education and the County Commission, in addition to her employment as a local Certified Public Accountant, will continue to provide the broad-based expertise needed to address the challenges ahead.
Please vote for Jamezetta Bedford for Orange County Commissioner, District 1 on March 3, 2026. Thank you!
